Norton Maza
Norton Maza, Chilean artist formed in Cuba and France. This book presents the world behind the artist, delivered by the hand of international curator, Gabriela Salgado. The book introduces us through images and biographic references, the main influences and figures that have determined the obsessions of this Chilean creator. Salgado presents the reader to a general appreciation of the artist, to then continue with a deep analysis of two key works: El Paisaje y sus Reinos (2013) and El Rapto (2016), both exhibited for the first time at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, respectively.
Norton Maza’s work is based on social criticism, trying to raise awareness to the spectator over concepts such as consumerism, religion, desire and politics. His discourse connects us with our past and future through the use of media icons of occidental culture, his own pop imaginary and abandoned toys.
